Beautiful, John. Is your duck a decal or inlay? Whichever, they are beautiful pens.

The vintners logo was a mallard duck. I just painted it with acrylic paint. I also use thin Sharpie in some requiring fine detail work.

Wow, these are beautiful. I am quite new to pen turning and have not seen corks used before. Any chance you have documented this work somewhere?

We live near the Finger Lakes Wine Region in Upstate NY and I expect the use of wine corks up here would go over very well.

Again, beautiful work!

john, really like all of the pens. Are you able to turn down a cork on the lathe to fit a cigar blank or are you able to find some really skinny corks somewhere? Seems like you would lose the logo on the cork?

Heh, heh, you drill it out and then slice out a wedge.

No documentation. Just conversations. I am happy to share information.

Corry, PA is a couple hundred miles due west of here. I'm about 15 miles east of Elmira.

Lovely work John, I tried this as I have plenty corks lying around, and it was a disaster - didn't think it was possible but seeing these I'll definitely have to give it another go :)

Thanks for showing!

for a cigar pen do you still start out drilling with a 10mm or do you go bigger and then cut the wedge out. Do you have it down to a science or is a little bit of trial and error?

John,
We are just far enough away that we don't get alot of the lake effect snows.
Man, those pens are awesome... I gotta try one!
Cold you possibly explain the process you use in fitting the cork to your pens?

Y'know what they say about opening a bottle. It has to be finished. I still have allot of your pine cones.
Thanks again,

Start by using a 15mm brad bit and then cut the wedge out. Science: if you gave me ten cork, I could finish nine of them. One would most likely be ruined during the drilling process.
Good luck, let's see yours.

Such amazing designs! I love the idea...while I'm in Germany I'll have to see if I can collect some corks to try this out.

Nice looking cork pens. On my regular job we do recycle alot and I come upon wine bottles on a daily basis and throw away corks all the time. I thought that there has to be something you can do with these and now I know. If anyone is interested I can probally get plenty of these things. Send me a PM and I will see what I can do.
