This pen is made from old growth California Redwood that was harvested from Moffett Field, CA. Hanger One (circa early 1930's).

Hangar One is one of the world's largest free standing structures, covering 8 acres (3.2 ha), and has long been one of the most recognizable landmarks of California's Silicon Valley. An early example of mid-century modern architecture, it was built in the 1930s as a naval air ship hangar for the USS Macon.

Looks really good on that liberty, like Mark said, simple and elegant. Where'd you source the wood? My father in law is a hobbyist pilot. It would be cool to make him something with a history like that.

So the trees were standing where the hanger was built, or the timber came from the hanger itself?

Nicely turned...cool!!!!

Great Pen, Larry.
I love Significant timber or with a History.
Any Sequoia has a History, but one from a Historic site is even more significant.
Great Fit, Finish and Kit.
Congratulations,
Brian.

I have been in Hanger One, very cool place. I also was at the Akron Air Dock in 1986 when they flew a Goodyear Blimp into it and turned around and came back out.

Beautiful Pen.

I think the hanger is just about the correct size for a woodturning shop.

I have never seen a building that large.

thanks for sharing. The pen is beautiful.
