Okay, a penmaker ought to have a mini miter box, I tell myself, so I made one. And not wanting to spend the money for the cute little power one, I took ten minutes out of my day and tossed one together out of a scrap piece of 1X4, and a piece of 1X2.

Here is my first attempt at miter box genius. Some Birdseye Maple and Macassar Ebony.

I will keep working at it.

Nice job. I am more interested in the miter box, even though the pen is VERY nice. I need to do the same.

Lauren,
That's a very nice pen but I'm with John I'd like to know how you did the
mitre box and what you used to hold things in place. Would you let John and
I know about it. Thank you very much.

Leave it to you guys. I post my wonderful pen and you want to know how I made the box. Thank you for the spelling correction mitre instead of miter. As a crossword freak I should probably know better. If I am not mistaken a miter is a clerical cap.

Okay, whatever; here are a couple of picks that might clear things up for you.

It's a small back saw that I picked up at Woodcraft. E Garlick & Son, Lynx Brand. It is about 8" long and 2" high. But I would think that any small saw would do.

Nicely done, sir! For the record, in American English it's "miter" and in British English it's "mitre." Use them interchangeably. :)

Lauren, That is a beautiful and creative pen! I love the contrasting colors of the wood, the segments and the excellent matching of the kit! Regards, Doc
