Hey all! Today I have my first rollerball to show off- a Beaufort Ink Mistral dressed in Eastern Red Cedar burl. Let me know what you think!

Burl? Did you harvest the burl, or have photo's of it?

Love me some ERC....I truly believe it's often overlooked for timbers with more expensive sounding names.

Really nice looking pen, great looking burl and nice finish.

Very nice. It looks great!

Beaut pen !!! ... I love the grain pattern in the ERC !!!

Very nice all around..including the photo!

Thank you! I used a tripod and an older 5 MP canon powershot. The tripod makes a world of difference.

WOW.......That is all I can say. Love the finish.
Care to tell us your method?

Thank you!

Between centers, one at a time:
3 coats Mercury thin CA, applied directly to the blank with a blue shop towel on the other side. Stickfast accelerator between coats
4 coats Mercury medium CA, applied using the same method above.
Wet sanding: 400, 600, 800 Abranet
Wet Micromesh: 1500, 1800, 2400, 3200, 3600, 4000, 6000, 8000, and 12,000. I don't spend more than 15 seconds with anything above 4000.
No polish, no plastic scratch remover, etc.

If you have any questions let me know!

I do happen to have a picture:

A friend of mine on Facebook found it. This picture was taken just after it was brought into his shop.

Sure would have thought there would be more 'eyes', and these ERC burls are harder to come by then the Yellow Cedar Burls and Pecan Burls. Ya just don't see them...at least I don't, and I've harvested thousands of ERC trees!
Thanks for sharing the photo, at least now I know they exist!
