I made time----between the phone ringing and fighting with a set of table legs I felt the need. For those of you folks that understand that this blank was wanting to be a pen----Here it is---
----------Mescal--------
The dark spot is bark and I had to fill/stretch the blank just a tad.

Gary,

Beautiful pen! I am glad you liked the blank.

Just for the record, it is Mescalbean, not just Mescal. That is one of its many names. Others include Texas Mountain Laurel (no relation to regular Mt. Laurel), Frijolito, Coral Bean, and Big Drunk Bean, among others. Its scientific name is Sophora secundiflora and there is more information about it here: http://uvalde.tamu.edu/herbarium/sose.htm.

Wow that is really nice. I am glad you took some time to release the pen that was locked up in that piece of wood.

Now I am not one who always sees shapes and faces in pens but when I look at the second photo I am reminded of the famous painting "The Scream" by Edvard Munch.
Turn the bottom photo upside down and then look at:

Phil the prop is my traveling buddy----never leave home without it----plus the brushed finish seemed to soak up the extra lighting and help with the glare.
