I had a block of briar crack in half on my lathe while making a pipe and didn't know what to do with the wood. Now that I'm turning pens, I found a use for the salvaged wood.

Thanks for all the nice replies!

Culprit, I finish my pipes by sanding down to (or up to, how ever you look at it) 1500 grit. Then apply the stain and hit it with the 1500 one more time lightly. After that, I buff with Tripoli, White Diamond, and seal it with pure carnuba wax.
