I love this timber, and like the pen a lot. Its easy to work with, comes up to a great finish. Learned an important lesson, that when you are sanding light timbers, get rid of the stainless steel bushings, as the black dust from the bushings can easily stain the wood. So next time I will use plastic bushings before sanding. I got the blanks from Exotic Timbers. It comes with a certificate of authenticity. My registrar who bought the pen, absolutely loved it. I would highly recommend this timber. I have not tried the birch burl. Does anyone from North America know if this is spalting on the timber, or is it the normal grain of the timber?

Beautiful pen. The blank is a great fit with the kit. Your fit and finish is spot on. Were can you find plastic bushings?

Beautiful pen - sure looks like spalt to me. Very nice at that.

Dan - you can buy Delrin bushings from most any of the pen suppliers, but for about the same price, you can buy a 12" Delrin rod & make 6-8 sets yourself. Check out Zoro Tools (division of Grainger) on ebay.

What a Striking Pen, Sean.
I haven't seen Matanuska Forest Alaskan Birch, before, but I will keep a look out for it in the Future.
Great Pen Choice, and Terrific Fit and Finish.
What finish did you use Sean ?

Well Doc., another beautiful pen. Do you mind me asking what a "registrar" in Australia does? Your story is quite amazing.
