Well finally got around to making a fancy pen for myself. All in all
I am very satisfied with the result. Picked a Maple Burl I had laying
around and started the process. It was pretty easy to put together
no problem there. I was kind of leery of the choice of wood but
it started to grow on me and I am sure it will grow bigger.

The photography part is still a work in progress mode. Today I will
run down and get myself a good sturdy tripod, hopefully it will improve
the photos a bit more.:cat:

Any comments will be appreciated:

PS: Used minimal lighting and a low aperture.

I like the nice medium brown color you achieved. I turned a maple pen for a family member, and while I thought it was a little stark (had the typical very light tan color of bare maple), the grain was nice, and the recipient of the pen is pleased with it.

What is your finish on the pen, and did you do anything to darken it?

I started with Behlen woodturners finish 1 coat, 3 coats of CA with linseed oil and the last two coats were with Hut Ultra Gloss Plastic finish..

The Behlen gives it a little darker tint, not too much and still be able to see the grain.
