Hi,

I thought I shaould show off another pen with stopper.
The pen is a "kiseru" style pen with an urushi finish called "kuro-negoro-nuri", black negoro lacquer.
By the way, Negoro lacquerwares were produced at the Negoro-ji temple complex in Izumi province until Muromachi peiod when the temple was destroyed by Hideyoshi. The red or black layers of lacquer on Negoro wares are intended to gradually wear away with use, revealing the black or red lacquer underneath. This effect has since been copied and emulated elsewhere.
Original negoro things are very highly priced.

However, the stopper on the cap was made in high relief "takamaki-e" technique. built directly on the cap, layer on layer of a mixture of urushi and iron powder. After the shape was achieved, the structure was engraved and finally coated with urushi

I look forward to each new item you roll out alone with the description of just what I am viewing. These techniques are clearly something requiring much work and dedicated practice to master...and I see mastery.
