Manu Propria Pens - "Tame-Hirame-Sakiji-Nuri"

This is a large Pocket Pen with a No.8 gold nib. It can be used with standard cardridge or as eye-dropper. The Urushi lacquer I call simplyfied "Tame-Hirame", The Correct term is "Tame-Hirame-Sakiji-Nuri". It is the term for a lacquer with a very tight sprinkled Nashiji, lacquered with transparent urushi, gound and polished. Tame refers to several final coats of transparent urushi that gives the nashiji a dark red color tone.

The polishing Process is very time consuming, takes around 10 days.
After the urushi lacquer was ground and polished up to grit 3000, the surface is pre-polished with cotton pad dipped into Rapeseed Oil and Tonoko, a very fine clay powder. After this the surface is cleaned carefully. Then "Dôzuri" is done. Raw Urushi "Ki-Urushi" is rubbed into the surface and completely removed (I use soft toilet paper). Then the it dries for 24 hours in 75% relative Humidity. This process is repeated 5 to 6 times. Then the surface is polished with Rapeseed Oil, Migako (a fine polishing powder) and the fingers. Then Dôzuri is repeated again 3 times. Finally the surface is polished with Rapeseed Oil, Migako and the fingers. At the very end the oil is cleaned of the surface and the surface gets a hard polish with Migako and fingers, The rubbing in urushi is made to fill micro pores
