Ebonite pen with solid coating of "tamehagane" powder and urushi lacquer.

Tamahagane (玉鋼) is a type of steel made in the Japanese tradition. The word tama means "round and precious", like a gem. The word hagane means "steel". Tamahagane is used to make Japanese swords, knives, and other kinds of tools.

Best,

Martin

Thank you for your comments. As mentioned earlier I am trying to exhaust the possibilities with urushi. This is the 105th lacquer technique I have developed. It is not everybody's taste but purist collectors of Japanese art appreciate things made from iron.
Urushi pens are not suitable to post caps.

Wishing a pleasant weekend

Martin
