Manu Propria Pens - Moon, Mars and Jupiter

I have made a serial of pens with urushi lacquer dedicated to the colors of planets. These lacquer belong to the group of "kinsoku mitateai" metal imitating surface lacquer. Mars is the red planet, the moon the silver white planet and Jupiter the yellow planet. I used Iron for moon, sentoku (brass) for Jupiter and copper for Mars

Holy Cow Martin! Those pens are way above my pay grade! I have no ideal what a urushi lacquer finish is. I'm going to have to educate myself on that one. Beautiful pens!

I haven't searched for urushi finishes in the US in about 5 years or so. And there were not any back then. I must search for them again to see if I can find any importers.

Where do you get your Urushi from? Do you order direct from Japan?

Hi Hank Lee,
I get my urushi from a friend in Japan who collects urushi in the mountains of Nagano.
But here you get everything you need WATANABE-SYOTEN =SPECIALIST IN JAPANESE LACQUER MATERIALS=
they speak English.
Here you can order "Urushi no Waza" probably the best book on urushi technique NIHON ART PUBLISHERS

Avi, I have indeed started to build a plantation of urushi trees but it will take at least 10 years before the trees can be cut to harvest urushi
