This afternoon I had the chance to finish a pair of ebonite fountain pens with a "ki-negoro" urushi finish, black lacquer upon yellow "ki" ground. 18 kt. Jowo nib

Best regards,

Very nice! I've wondered how ebonite holds up as a pen. As a pipe smoker I know how it reacts to saliva (oxidation, requiring removal and buffing). Perhaps the skin oils don't have the same effect.

Michael

Thank you for your kind words.
Michael, the ebonite pen is lacquered with urushi and urushi is resistant to any acid or any other substance and has anti-bacterial properties and it can cope with temperatures upto 300°C without damage.

Best regards,

Martin
