Only a beginner but I can see this making a nice pen with a better kit

Great work even for a beginner. Fit and finish is what it is all about and you appear to take that pretty seriously. I agree with you about the kit. As a rule, you don't want to pair a $25 heirloom quality blank with a $5 kit. But I am thrilled that someone gave you one as a gift and that you have had a chance to learn just how easy it is to make a high end pen.

Today I hope you learned that takes the same amount of time to produce a pen that will sell for $30 as it does one that will sell for $150.00 . Pair your high end materials with kits of equal stature and you are on your way to success.
