Long Boy Silver Tiger

This is a new kit from Berea in gunmetal, called (appropriately enough) Long Boy. The blank is an acrylic from Beartooth Woods called Silver Tiger. I like the kit, not too sure about the blank.

The size of the Long Boy is deceiving, because it's so, well, long. It's thicker than it looks, it uses 10mm tubes. Here is a size comparison with an Executive.

This is an unusual blank. At first I thought the epoxy was showing through. But if you look closely, there are "ripples" in some of the colors. Don't know what caused it, and I've never seen it before.

I suppose theoretically it's possible. Berea sells 10" long lengths of 10mm brass tubes.

But drilling the blank might be problematic. The body is just a hair under 4" long. I think the hardest part would be finding a 10mm drill bit long enough. The 10mm bit I have is 5-1/8" long overall, so it might be possible.

I bought some when Berea introduced them on their website. I've assembled three. I found the click mechanism a little fussy to assemble, but it's easy overall.

If you press the center coupler into the upper and lower tubes, then turn the coupler flush with the tubes, you won't need to purchase separate tubes.
