One of many blanks in the extremely generous box that Edohmann sent me for a BASH prize.

I'm not sure I would have ever seen or thought of a Live Oak pen blank otherwise. At first glance it just kind of looks like on old grey piece of wood. The more i looked at it, the more interested i got. I think it looks even better turned.

A fun blank. Thanks again, Edgar!

Thanks Jeff - glad to hear you are enjoying the blanks. Nice job on that pen!

That blank came from my brother's farm in Weesatche, TX (Goliad County). He lives on part of the old Dohmann homestead that our great-grandfather purchased in 1870.

The live oak trees around his house had to be trimmed back a bit a few years ago to remove some of the large limbs over his house & garage. He gave me a few logs from that cutting that are nicely weathered and slightly spalted.

For something so common, I think those blanks are really nice.
Thanks for sharing the results.

That is a beautiful piece of wood and is nicely finished.

Leave it to Edgar to hide something where few can find it!

Now I gotta go look at the Box 'O Goodies the Edgar sent me to see if I have any of that ol' Live Oak. I think that I do since I remember some came from the Old Dohmann homestead.
