I wanted to share this first attempt to inlay aluminum, I have layered several layers of thin aluminum to the cap and the had a heck of a time turning it as it blew apart twice and I had to reglue it, I ended up turning the edges round on the disc sander after the blow outs and then finished it on the lathe.
the body of the pen has wider strips of aluminum for the lincoln symbol, I ended up drawing the lincoln symbol on the pen and then I used my dremel and carefully etched the image out and clued the pieces of aluminum in.
I learned alot from this pen and plan on trying it again.
thanks
jeff

Love how you took the design concept and moved it into the final product. Doing it this way adds creativity and should allow for other concept pens. The one drawback is as you noted...they lack support and blow out. Perhaps if you sanded the aluminum closer to the barrel and then do finishing work after soaking it in thin CA it would help prevent the blowout...?

Fantastic pen!
