To answer about the inlay on the Koa pen---It is crushed Turquoise.

I turned it down very close to finished size. I then cut a groove about half the depth of the wood. I have cut all the way to the tube before and it doesn't work near as well.

I then put the crushed stone on a folded piece of paper and with one hand a put a drop or two of thin CA in the groove and then tap in some stone. I do this all the way around and then allow it to dry.

Then using a very narrow strip of 80 grit sandpaper glued to a piece of scrap wood I sand down the stone. Be carful to keep the 80 grit of the wood.

Then a little stone may need to applied to fix any tear out during sanding. The Koa pen took two applications.

Then sand again with 80 then go up on grits and then do whatever finish you like. The Koa was three coats of thin CA to mm12000.
