After turning several variants of a cap I settled on not turning a cap at all
I found an old piece of very old oak under the wood pile in the garage
(never throw anything away) that had the aged look and milling marks still on it.
After cutting a very thin strip being careful to keep the patina as much as possible and further working it down on a belt sander I applied it to the tube
and left it rough for texture. The only finish is none!
I found it quite difficult to not sand CA and polish the heck out of this.
the mermaid's face is looking up and the artwork on this blank is beautiful.

The 2d photo is a different pan (dang!)

Nice touch -- good style and will appeal to the "old salts" and such for sure.

Love to see a creative touch!!!!

Look for some weathered teak to carry the theme forward

Who ever did the artwork did a fantastic job.

You did a fantastic job on the pen. The cap really sets it apart. Instead of just seeing the blank and the pretty art I see the whole pen as one item. Very well done.

If you need some weathered teak I have some. The only problem with dried out weathered teak is once it is oiled it does not look dried out and weathered.

Actually I didn't even oil this stuff,I did use some green mixed with black acrylic
on a rag and rub it down for some highlights but other than that there is no finish on it.
I figure that as it gets wear from use that it will self patina and keep this look.
An earlier post suggested weathered teak but I thought it held up to weathering very well and kept that "nice" appearance ,I kinda wanted the old pier feel.
Thanks
Mark
