First run at the Atlas. Well, actually the first was black palm which blew to pieces when I drilled it, so I decided on leopardwood. Interesting stuff. Looks a bit too much like plain old red oak but still interesting.


The zebra cigar is on a platinum kit, the wenge is on a copper kit.

Two lessons learned on wenge--- difficult to turn (light cuts and honed skews were barely enough, lots of sanding!)..... and DON'T wax the pen if you use a non-grain filling finish unless you want to be scrubbing white stuff out of the pores (and I HAD to use a 100% carnauba paste).

Finish is conversion varnish.
