This Sierra is made from leather rings cut for me by my engraver.

Please do tell how you made this- did you just build up layer after layer of CA?

Reed, what kind of glue did you use to glue the leather rings together?

If you want to see a larger picture of Reed's Siera, go to his pictures and click on it.

Very nice idea and well executed. I've thought about a leather pen, but this is different than I was thinking, hadn't thought about the leather handle on a knife.

I used thin ca to glue together, the ends are wood used to compress the rings together. Getting old can't remember what the wood ends are.
The finish is dip lacquer. I just stack the rings compress with a clamp and drip thin ca.

Reed43,
Nice pen and good job with it. I've made a few leather pens and they are fun and easy. I don't want to hijack Reed43's post, but one of my leather pens can be seen at http://tinyurl.com/jshww It is made much the same way Reed43's was except I cut the leather disks with a leather disk stamping tool and glued the disks together with epoxy instead of CA. Finish was CA/BLO instead of lacquer.Sharp tools are a must as Reed mentioned. I found that the scraper and skew did the best cutting. The colored leather I used was from a bag of scraps from Hobby Lobby. Thanks Reed43 for posting your leather pen...once again...nice pen and I hope adding to your post is not considered to be bad manners. I hope your post has inspired others to try somethinhg different.
Do a good turn daily!

Skye,
Oorah! Cool idea for the pen. I am always trying to think of something different to use. I just haven't come up with anything. Someone did a pine cone pen on another forum last year that was really amazing. My pen in a hat was made from greasewood, which has little knot-like spots where it had thorns. It was really different and I loved it. I think I'll post a pic of it.
