When the lathe calls at 3am. You're guaranteed to get the first cup of coffee.

Yes. It's Thuya Burl and the other is buckeye Burl. I love the Red in it that buckeye releases when their is an infection present. CA finish on the Buckeye and lacquer finish on the Thuya.

My favorite pen the Majestic Squire with a favorite wood Thuya Burl. Two beautiful pens. I've found i have severe allergies to the Thuya. One smell and I am fighting a sinus headache for the next 8 hours.

What laqure do you use? How many coats?

I use pre-cat lacquer by Mohawk. Here in California you need to be a licenced contractor to purchase it. I pick it up by the gallon and spray it through an hvlp unit. 3 coats, sanding between coats. Final coat sand with micro mesh. I also use a pre-cat cab acrylic and spar varnish.

The finish on your burl woods is exquisite. You make the detail drop into 3 dimensions. What a gift. The return on your commitment is our envy and respect. One of a kind each piece.
