Finally here's a picture of the pen I made my Dad. The wood is Red Oak from a tree growing on the old homeplace where he grew up.He had to cut it down a couple of years ago right after my grandfather died and it's been laying there drying ever since. I "saved" several pieces of it and surprised him with this pen. I think he's shown it to almost everybody he knows...lol. He refuses to use it, keeps it in the case I gave it to him in. I guess I'll make him an everyday pen from some of the same wood....lol

Mike, that was a very thoughtful gift & I know your Dad reflects on the "ol days" as he shares your workmanship. Always nice to have a little piece of history still going strong.

History sure adds a lot to a pen. I had a lady bring me a peice of walnut her dad helped cut and stack 40 years ago. After the first one I made she ordered 6 more to give to other family memebers.
