I started working on some spalted water oak earlier. Bad idea. The open, rough grain REALLY went to town when the dye was added. And partway through the finishing process, I attempted to use the skew to cur back a few layers of CA to make grain filling easier. Cut too far and decided to hang it up. Found the curly maple in the box o' stuff and decided to try it out. I was hoping the chatoyance would look good with the dye, and kinda figured the dye was gonna kill it. It worked out really well, the pics don't really show off the reflectiveness of the grain very well. The end-grain type parts REALLY soaked the dye up, making them almost black. I lightened it up a little with 600 grit and went about finishing as usual. I'm kinda tired of standing in front of the lathe right now, so I PROBABLY won't be making any more today.
