after several trials and errors and errors and errors this is what I came up with

Don't know what happen the first time but here is the picture (I hope)

this is a gentelmans pen with BOW, Purple Hart and Paduk. Finished with CA,friction polish and topped with TSW.

That looks well done. The one thing I would recommend is using thinner wood. That looks to be at least 1/8" thick. I've found that 1/16" and even 1/32" actually look better. The thinner wood is more subtle and doesn't appear to be so overwhelming.

Yes I used a table saw for segmenting and was surprised at the ease of it.
Your are right about using thinner wood. My next pen (I hope) will be blackwood and some thin ivory.
