My daughter wanted a stylus pen for her 13th B-Day, so I made one out of a cherry burl her and I cut last year on a hike. Too nice a piece of wood for CA, so I made my own friction polish mixture.
My favorite wood! And I agree - too nice to cover in plastic. I usually tend towards the oil finish for cherry, and let it naturally age and develop a patina with use. I'm sure you're daughter will treasure it.
