Irish Bog oak....

Well decided to finally make the piece of Irish bog oak I bought a month ago. Paired it on a gold Navigator.

I sanded to 600 then a shot of BLO and just two small coats of CA to allow the grain to be felt slightly through it.

Very nice job! I love anything Irish. Where did you get the wood from? I got some from this site a few years ago but it is to small for a large pen.

I got that one from ExoticBlanks. They usually have them in both the long blanks and also a short one as well.

And thank you all for the comments, I am really happy how it came out.

Very interesting. I have a customer who likes the gloss finish of the CA, but wants the tactile feel of wood. It looks like you may have captured this compromise in your finish. I may have to give that a try.

Dawn should have more up on her site in a couple days. I just sent her a fresh batch of both the Irish Bog Oak and the English Bog Oak.
