So this started out as a full blank of spalted hickory. The now replaced section was a bit soft when I started and it ended up blowing out completely leaving me with about 5/8" of the lower blank and an epoxy covered tube. I turned the tube back down clean and cut a clean edge on the remaining piece of wood leaving about 1/2" of usable. Stuck a piece of mahogany in between then finished the remaining off with silver maple.

In the end, turning the lower blank around and separating the pieces of hickory made this one of my favorites so far. I'm happy with the save and now feel a little more comfortable using some of my less than ideal blanks.

Between the hickory and maple at the lower portion of the blank. It's just a thin strip to separate the 2 lighter woods. It almost looks black in the pictures, but yes I'm sure it's mahogany from my stock pile :)
