I just started casting things here and there. I thought the idea of making a small box for individual castings was good for experimantation. The fact that was acrilic was not so smart at all. Resin and acrilic bond like nothing else.
The tubes were painted and I noticed that most of the cast was fine when dried but the bottom part of the tubes {were most the heat builed up) got blemished I'll try lifting the box next time to see if I can get a more uniforn heat arrounf the tubes.
Any comment will be welcome.
Thanks for looking Alex

Alex - you were being smart in trying to do something different. I really like the effect of the painted tubes and clear resin. I think you're onto something, just needs a little tweaking.

Alex, it is a pity about the under side. But I'm sure you will conquer it. Very nice try though.

I've never cast anything, so of course I could be talking rubbish, but I would be surprised if this was caused by heat. I would have been more inclined to think that as you poured the resin into the mold, it 'washed' some of the loose surface paint to the underside.

Either way, I'm sure the casting guru's here will steer you in the correct direction.

Here's what I think...and I know absolutely nothing..so don't forget that! Wax the mold...maybe that will stop the sticking. drill and glue the painted tube after the mold is done, not before. Seal the mold with removable caulking...think it's called peal-away..and drop it in a bucket of icewater. any or all of those are just some thoughts I had, having no idea of course what I'm talking about.

If those things grew on trees, that 'blemish' would be called a burl, a quilt or some other rarity and jack the price up :)

I think it looks way cool!
