Got a bunch of cutoff's from Mike at Logs to Lumber on a .308 bullet I put together. Sanded to 1000 then mm'd to 12000. BLO-CA finish. Don't know how many coats I put on, as I was jamming to Rage Against The Machine at the same time. It has atleast 8 but maybe as many as 25. Plastx followed by MeGuiars gold class wax. Also a cocobolo slim I made. Same finishing.

Ernie, very cool.
PS: I'm in Louisville. Schedule pretty packed. workshops during the day. Maybe going to the BATS baseball game tomorrow night. I brought some pens and some blanks as well.

Great pen. Love the grains. I can't imagine having the patience for that many coats. You must be using thin CA? I use medium and do three coats for a glassy finish. That stuff is too expensive, in my opinion, for many, many coats. Sure turned out great though. Nice work.

Martin I only use Medium. The BLO helps accelerate it. 12 coats takes around 10 minutes. Total finishing time start to finish 15 minutes. No patience needed there. Just turn the radio up and Jam.
