Here is one my son, Jake, made for his grand mother. It too is an hour glass model (in rose gold) and the wood came from a piece of black walnut from our property here in GA. Jake and I were splitting logs and we found what looked like a perfect dowel rod in the middle of the log. We pulled it out and used it on this pen.

The other one I made with the 24k kit and a piece of Bethlehem olive. The sliding dovetail box (maple and walnut scraps) I made for the pen on the table saw.

Nice job on both items! Things are more meaningful when there is a connection with the pen and the home place. Good photos, too.

The pens look great. Jake did a fine job on the gift for Grandma.
How do you like the Hour Glass kit. They caught my eye but haven't ordered one yet..

Sorry for the delay, kruzzer, I have been doing a lot of travel. These kits have been very nice to work with and have gone together quite nicely without any binding or looseness in the twist mechanism. We liked them so much we ordered three more!
