Hornet Hive cast in PR
Tube and blank painted white
Usual sanding & MM
First attempt, I know with a better cast there would be fewer voids
But I think its different.

You can come get the fifty or so of those things out of my shed, but you got to take the hornets with them....you know, those nasty red wasps!

Uniquely weird....are you casting these in a horizonal mold? Any plans on making each section(comb) a different color?

I really like the look. I like the egg shell color goes really well with it.

I think I remember Curtis did one also. This was on my to do list but never got to it.

NICE JOB :good:

I made one with alumilite and wasp nest for a pen I did for Smitty, I used yellow dye, I kind of like yours better.

This is really slick! Using organic materials found in nature is just awesome.

very nice, I've seen it done with manamade hive before...
but honestly I would like it much better if you DID have actual hornets inside!
I don't think you will have complaints if you cast these nasty bugs in there (although you may want to smoke them first...)

Looks super. And yea..I used to make and sell blanks for those. It's hard to find nests though that are thick enough to get all the way through a pen and still be able to clean all the crud out of the bottom of the nests.

Cool pen!

When I was a kid, my dad used to take me fishing. We used hornet larvae for bait. We'd get a nest and put it in a mason jar, and just pull the larvae out of the hive with the hook. One trip, on the 4th day, I opened the jar only to find a lot of really mad baby hornets....
