I got this Jeff Powell pine cone blank from Exotic Blanks a couple of weeks ago. I turned it the other night and as I was finishing it something caught my eye. It looks like an Owl looking out at you from within a tree. Pretty cool I think I'll have to keep this one.

That's great looking! I saw it right away!!! Keeper for sure!!! But if you let anyone close to you see it you might loose it

You wouldn't think a pine cone would be hard but I found that as I turned it and got down to the core of the pine cone it was much harder that the acrylic. I stopped and re-sharpened my gouge and used a light touch.

I don't really see it as an owl but definitely a great looking pen. I don't have much in the way of imagination either so that kind of limits me as to what I see in some of these designs. Bit of a downer sometimes.
