LITTLE CHANGE = GREAT RESULTS

One evening while lurking about IAP
I came across a thread on different ways
IAP members mount their pen blanks on
the lathe. Someone illustrated this point
with a photograph. The photo showed
the pen blank mounted on bushings;
and the bushings were mounted on a
dead center and live center tailstock. I
tried this technique over the holiday
weekend and was very impressed with
the results. That nagging wobble while
turning vanished!

I’m passing along my thanks to those
that participated in the discussion and also
thanks to those that are so willing to
share their knowledge. This little change I made
has improved my turning results. Again, thank you, all!

By the way, here is a picture of that ‘little change’
That I made.

Do you have a link to that thread? I'd like to read that.
I have been doing one piece of the pen at a time, at least on important pens. I do the top then the lower barrel. The short distance between the headstock and tail stock has made a big difference for me.

Frank,
Ideas come and go, and they evolve over time by having us borrow or steal from one another. I like to call it standing on the shoulders of giants. [:D] [;)]
Gary

ps: stay tuned, this might lead somewhere....

Gary,

You hit the topic on the nailhead. It was Frank's post that I
was referring to. Thanks for ferreting out the topic.

Frank,

You're little tip has really helped my turning. Thanks for your insight. ... and the 'twinkle' in the photo was a happy accident.

IAP is a great place.
