Help What is this wood? NH

I made this pen today but don't know what kind of wood it is, I think it is a burl of some kind? The front blew out while I was turning it so I had a piece of Creme DeMenthe Acrylic from Scott that was left over so I mated it up. Any idea about the wood?

If you got it from me and it was oily and had a pleasant smell, it is Thuya burl. I believe from Morocco.

Looks like cross cut cherry to me, I'm not seeing the burl in it.

It is the Rinehart kit and you can get them at Exotic Blanks or WoodCraft. Exotic Blanks is a lot less expensive.

Yes it did smell like that. I couldn't put my finger on how to explain how it smelled but pencil shavings was definitely it, with a hit of pepper...
