Hey guys,

I am currently working for people involved in the exotic hardwood floors business. I got a piece of IPE and made a pen. It's quite hard 3600 something on the Janka scale. Three things unusual about it, when you sand this the dust is fluo green, it kind of smell like green tea and lastly on the close up shot the grain looks like small squares. This floor is sold at around 8$ a SQ/FT.

Thanks for looking and comments welcomed,

Charles

It is greenish brown.

Close up shot.

I have some flooring samples that ive been playing around with, and i believe the Brazilian Teak has that same pattern to the grain. I'll have to check and make sure thats the one i'm thinking it is.

Great pen! finish is outstanding as usual! That is some less dense Ipe you have there. Ipe SHINES as a bamboo backed longbow. the darker it is, the denser it is. the color range can go anywhere from a little blonder than you have, to purple, to almost black. Careful with the dust though, it can be quite a skin and eye irratent.
