I watched a clip on faceplant of an Irish woman saying in Gallic that it was an insult to the Irish to refer to St. Patrick as Pat or Paddy. Maybe it is and maybe it isn't, I don't know. Just say sorry and have a couple more pints. ;)

I do believe that 'Pat" is OK but Patty not so much....Paddy on the other hand seems to be acceptable from what I've gathered.
I do know that at one time the word 'Paddy' was a derogatory term for Irish here in America and that is where we get the term 'Paddy Wagon' from.
