This is a very special pen. 28 years ago my mother planted a grapefruit seed in a pot. A year later she died and the grapfruit tree went into my care. It lived for 25 years getting as big as 6 feet tall. When it died I saved the wood and made pens for all of the family.

Thanks, I was very lucky with the grain. It had some tiny burls and very nice rust color lines running here and there. It was a very nice wood to work with. Turns very well.

Wow.

Now if that is not an heirloom I don't know what is.
Very nice work.

There's a 40 year old maple in my mother's back yard. We planted it as a family when we moved in there. It was no more than a twig. It needs to be trimmed this spring. I think I'll follow your lead. Beautiful pen, Alice, and great inspirational story.

Great job Alice. It is a very nice pen and I'm sure all of them will be cherished. I really like turning pens for people that have sentimental value. It makes me feel really proud to be able to give such a gift.
