Going Formal Pen

I call this pen "Going Formal" because the idea was that there are bow ties. The design didn't come out exactly like I thought it would but I liked it and have made a few in various woods. This one is made from Cumaru and Tigerwood, both of which I got as free flooring samples. The veneer is from a variety pack I got at Woodcraft so I don't know what it is.

Here is the first one of these that I did in Ipe & Tiete Rosewood (again free HW flooring). I posted this on the Y! penturners group and someone challenged me to see if I could "do it again". What wood combo do you like better?

These really jumped out at me when I saw them. I really really like them as well. The segmenting and the design is perfect in scale and the subtlety in the contrast is extremely effective. Not to mention the implementation of the segmenting is dead on. Of the two I think I like the first design better and the wood combination better. Either way if you can't tell these are some of my favorite pens I have seen on here in a while.

Thanks to all that replied. I don't have any spare baron kits laying around but with the next "Pen In The Hat" comming up soon, I might just have to try one of these designs out on a cigar kit.

Very nice work. The subtle color work great with the intricate segmenting.

I am going to have to go withthe first one posted,with one cavet.
The vies taken are different for each pen.
I know there is a circle Split by the clip, or call it an oval.
I have never been a fan of that shape(the pattern "wrapping") but as pictured the first one has a more sublte "blend of woods.
Nice execution on the cuts.
