Our First Sergeant PCS'd back stateside so I made him a going away gift.
A bolt action pen in gun metal with the Air Force rank insignia.
One of those laser inlay kits from woodnwhimsies.
I also made him a wooden challenge coin that I engraved with the Neje laser.
The original ying-yang symbol that was the inspiration for the Korean flag on one side and my logo on the back.
I think it turned out really nice.

Great job Dave. One question tho, why did you mount the rank insignia that way. In my mind it would have been more logical with the point of the stripes toward the point of the pen. That's just me, though. Where on the RoK are you? Spent a wonderful year at Kunsan, many long years ago.

Yes it is tough to decide which way to orient these. I've done a couple them now. It depends on if they will use them or just display them. The inverted top of the chevron kind of goes with the shoulders of the cartridge and the angle of the tip. If I orient it the other way it also looks a little funny as well.
I am at Osan Air Base by the way.

I thought the general rule is to make the design upright while the pen is in the writing position, like you did with the MSgt stripes. Is this not the most common orientation?
