I now horizontal drill on my lathe when I drill this one. I chuck the blanck in my Talon Chuck and use a Jacobs drill chuck in my tail stock with the BIG BIT...I drill it at slow speen,,,dead on every time!!

Great News!![:D]

Honestly, the best way to drill is horizontally if you want accuracy, the tail stock and the head stock are already in line...might as well use it![;)]

You don't need to spring for a Oneway or Nova chuck....
Believe it or not Grizzly has a new chuck that is a clone of the Vicmarc... and takes all the original Vicmarc jaws...
lkorn bought one and so did a couple of my club members and they all love it..
Here is the link to the 1"x8 http://www.grizzly.com/products/H6265
they also have a set of 1" pin jaws that you will need to drill blanks http://www.grizzly.com/products/H6268

Randy as long as you have a good drilling vice and a decent drill press you shouldn't have any problems. I drill all of my blanks on my drill press and I usually use 7/8" blanks for the Statesman and Gentleman and now even the Emperor kits. It also helps a lot to have square blanks which some of our suppliers seem to know nothing about. Whenever I am going to drill a blank where I know that it will be a tight run I square up my blanks before I do anything. Then just go slow with sharp bits and cross your fingers. LOL

Hi Tom,

Those Grizzlies are not the kind we see up here..[:D]

I have never seen their product...looks like it's more economical...
