Went with a slim because they are cheap and if I mess up bad I'm not out much. Got a little chip out when squaring the blanks but figured it's only a trial so carried on. I like the wood enough I think I will take it apart and sand it down below the chipout. Spalted box elder from a tree we took down a few years ago in the yard.

Rick,

You have SUCCEEDED!!

So, now that you've proven to yourself you can do it, break out your favorite rollerball or fountain pen components, and get'r'dun!!!!

Great start!!

Remember, if you goof, you only loose the tube. (Well, and the blank) Spare tubes are about a half buck a pair.
