Our summer intern at the office brought me a pair of sheds from his family ranch. To thank him, I turned him an antler bolt action. Drilling was tough and my goal was to drill the blank so I could leave a bit of the 'bark' on the finished pen. I succeeded and I'm quite pleased with my first venture in to turning antler.

Comments, critiques, and criticisms welcomed!

Very nice results! I love turning antler and agree with leaving some bark on if possible. It seems to authenticate the material to some people. I don't know how you finished(it looks good) but I like to put a couple coats of thin ca on after I've reached finished size, then mm down to finish. Mostly it's a seal coat but it also adds a little shine to the less porous areas of the blank. I'm sure he'll love the pen!
