One member of my woodworking club has been considering yet rejecting the slippery slope of pen-making.
Tonight, he visited the shop to have me show him how I make a pen.
We spent an enjoyable couple of hours together doing everything from picking out the wood to discussing the design to building and finishing the pen. I did all the work this time, but he'll most likely be back Saturday to make a pen while I watch and offer advice.

The resulting pen:

Chrome slimline dressed in segmented, Curly, lightly bird's eyed maple with black walnut accents. I can't be happier. Usually, I struggle with my CA finish.
The fit and finish (skewed smooth, CA, walnut oil & more CA, then MM 1500 thru 12000, and buffed out with plastic polish) came out dead on.
Plus, after all these months saying he doesn't need a lathe, he's asking what I think of certain brands and what else he'd need to get started.
I think the hook is set for good this time.

Thanks guys, I'm pretty sure Norm will end up turning and learning at the IAP.
We've since exchanged emails and he's planning to come back over Saturday AM.
This time, I'll be working on LOML's bookcase and available if there's a question.
He'll be making blanks and shavings on the lathe.
I never thought I'd be the one taking anyone down this slippery slope [}:)] [8D]
