I've made about 20 pens I guess, all started from when a client bought in some turned blanks to be laser engraved.

So I started the hobby as well, and then this nice bloke bought this really dark blank in and gave it to me.
It apparently came a few weeks ago from Africa, and its quite hard.
Its naturally black with some dark brown grain through it.

I'm not sure what wood it is, but wish I had more.
I'll ask the bloke what it is again next time he's here.

Just a simple bullet style pen, but I think the black / chrome look really nice together.

Sorry the photo quality doesn't show the grain, its a photo from my mobile.

cheers,
Chris

Thank you.

I think he did say 'some sort of ebony' but I didn't want to get it wrong so didn't mention that.

I'm using the rest of the blank to make a perfume pen from my daughter for xmas :)

Sometimes referred to as African Blackwood.
It does cut really well. I have used it for pens and bottle stoppers. It is also a great wood for segmenting on pens for contrasting woods.
