first purple pen!

As you can see, I'm rather excited tonight, because I finished my first pen for MYSELF. Since I started (half a dozen pens ago-ha!) I've been wanting to turn a purple pen, and I'm so happy with this one!

I'm not exactly sure what the blank was - I got it at last month's local meeting in a "grab bag".

I love the Elegant Sierra kit - have to buy more of those!! I even got a purple ballpoint refill for it.

I'm rather surprised that the shape came out so well. At first we were thinking that it looked VERY fat, but it matches the curve of the clip exactly!

Need to order more kits so I can finish up the others that I turned yesterday...cedar, blue curly maple, spalted maple (also from the grab bag).


I think my next project is to make some kind of "tent" so my photography won't suck...

If I had to guess, I would say that wood is box elder burl, but it's sorta hard to tell just from one picture. It's a highly addictive hobby, be careful!!!:wink:

Usually when we think of purple, it would be purple heart. Was this blank dyed purple? That is what it looks like.

Most certainly that wood is dyed. I suspect BEB.
