First pen ever done..

Polaris gold kit with Lignum Viate and CA finish.
I think this wood would go better with a chrome or gunmetal kit.

Turned between centers.
I could have gone a bit smaller. It's a fatty
It has a slight lip at the nose so I guess I need to turn tighter to the bushings.
I over estimated how much sanding would take off and finish build up.

Everything done on the lathe.. drilled trimmed and so on.

After finishing my 2nd pen I was not happy with this one.. It was fat and the finish was dull..

I took it apart and turned it down more

Here's the re-cut Polaris..
I also added a Red Chestnut stain.. The natural color of the Lignum wasn't working with the gold. My wife recommended a red stain.. It really helped.

This one had 4 coats CA. sanded to 600 grit.. buffed with white rouge then buffed again on a loose cotton wheel.

Lignum is my favorite wood, Alabama power here in Alabama use Lignum viate as ball bearings for there big motors on the river at the power plants, I was told i could not make a pen out of it, Thers is a little harder than what we got, really had to keep sharpening the pens but sure came out pretty, some great wood

Glad you took the extra time to re-turn this blank to a slimmer profile. Some like a 'plump' pen for whatever reason....I'm just not one of those people. By slimming it down some, you do loose some grain structure, but it just looks better!

Congrats on the first....make sure you put it somewhere safe, and then pull it out one year from now and compare it to the lastest one you turned!
