This is an Emperor in HongMu aka [FONT=Verdana,Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif]suanzhi! The wood is best described a a cross between Huanghuali and Tzu-t'an it is a true rosewood species used from the middle Qing period when supplies of Tzu-t'an dwindled as Hongmu much resembles It. Many pieces of fine chinese classicle furniture is made from this material from the Imperial workshops in Bejing durning that period.
I am just getting to grips with my new warco 918 metalworking lathe and this pen was made largely on it.
