I made my first pen today and presented it to the wife. It's a slimline and I made the nib end a little thicker because I know she prefers a little thicker pen. I could have also thinned the middle to better match up the band.

The wood (black walnut)came from a piece from her late father's workshop, so it will have a double sentimental value to her. The wood is darker & the finish is shinier than what it looks like in the photo. (got to practice more with the camera's macro function.)

Any suggestions are more than welcome, that and practice, practice, practice is how I'll get better.

Looks pretty good for your first pen!
I'm sure your wife will appreciate the pen,
not only where the wood is from, but that you made it for her.

Thats a good lookin piece of wood. If my shop was made with walnut I'd never run out of blanks. It might get cold in the winter. I just made my 5th pen the themometer read 25* in my shop. On my avitar you can see my shop I just stood a wall up on one end of the hay loft. Good job on your wife's pen.
