Finally got up the nerve to try closed end Barons. Thanks to Fangar's pin chuck, they turned quite easily. Finish is CA.

The first is Rimu and the second Rewarewa, both woods that I brought home from New Zealand. Blanks were just 5 in. long so I had to rig a dowel to fit over the live center to keep from penetrating into the drilled zone, therefore not much room for a fancy finial.

The rimu looks very nice! Glad to hear that you were able to get the nerve to use the chuck. Pretty easy eh? Thanks for sharing.

Love the pens but that Rimu really caught my eye. Fangers pin chuck is great isn't it?
I had read here about people loosing the small pin when the remove the pen so I keep a cow magnet just below the turning and it grabs the pin when I forget.
